Are Organic Floor Cleaners Better For My Floors?

Cleaning your floors can be a daunting task that becomes expensive over time. Buying overpriced cleaners and purchasing top of the line machines will break the bank. Even though your cleaning supplies say that it gets the floor clean, most of the time it will but at a price. Hard abrasives or harsh cleaning products actually wear away your flooring. Most of the time there is a constant need to clean your floors over and over because they look dirty but all along it is the fact that the flooring is wasting away little by little. That can be a thing of the past.

Since the world is "going green", it seems that everyone is getting in on the action including businesses that promote the fact that their everyday products are safe for the environment. Most of these products are things you use on a regular basis and you would have no idea they can be used for cleaning floors. The wonderful thing is that they are cheap and even more effective than the advertised home cleaners. Scrubbing your floors relentlessly and having to worry about hard abrasives are becoming a thing of the past.

A couple of products you can use may be found in your cabinets right now. Baking soda is great for keeping down the odors in your refrigerator and freezer. However, it can also be used as a natural floor cleaner. This product works great if you have pets because it removes the everyday odors that pets will omit. The great thing about baking soda is that you can use it on the carpets and laminate or hardwood floors. Adding 1 gallon of water to a cup of baking soda will give you a mixture that will be gentle on your hard flooring but, at the same time, clean it just as well as the regular brands. Another great cleaning agent would be white vinegar. Even though it may smell strong, vinegar is a natural born cleaning agent used for decades. This common household item is unique because it will not leave a grimy film behind but it will ensure your floors are as clean as you can make them. When mixed with baking powder, the two will actually have a disinfecting power. This can be great if you are cleaning your floors but also be wonderful if you want to clean everyday surfaces.

Since companies are going green more and more every day, they will come out with products that are "green". These cleaners off no harmful additives and use no chemicals that would be considered abrasive. The only thing to remember is to use it as directed so there are not any adverse effects on your flooring. Going green is better on the environment however it is also better on your wallet, whether it may be short term or long term. Giving your floors a natural treatment instead of hard abrasives will save you money but it will more importantly leave your home looking like new.
